Share the Health: Lady Refers 30 Friends

Someone came in recently saying they were referred by one of our members. I was inspired to write this Share the Health referral story because this was at least the 30th member that has come in thanks to this person.

Five years ago, one of our athlete’s parents decided to give us a try. This was shortly after COVID, when we were one of the first gyms back up and running.

Her goals were modest compared to many members we see: lose a few pounds, start strength training, and get more toned.

When she came for her first session, she brought a friend—who seemed even more skeptical. They’d tried plenty of fitness programs before. Most were “fine,” but nothing felt like something they had to go to, enjoyed going to, and saw real results from.

After that first session, I wasn’t sure I’d see them again. We were wearing masks at the time, so it was hard to read facial expressions and know how they were feeling. I told a couple of my go-to jokes, but it was tough to see if they landed.

Fast forward five years. That same woman not only brought her friend that day—she’s gone on to refer at least 30 people to Pratt Personal Training.

Apparently, personal training became a frequent topic at parties. What’s crazy about her getting 30 people to come try us out is that she was likely trying to convince three times as many people to come in. This is because two-thirds of people do not act, even when a friend recommends it. Which pretty much means this lady should have been on our sales staff.

If she referred 30 people who joined, how many lives were changed for the better because she spoke up? A lot. And it all started with one person deciding to give it a try—despite her doubts and her friend’s doubts.
