What feels like a lifetime ago, a young guy came into the gym wanting to get started. His dad came with him. (One of those dad appearances that felt like he’d been dragged to a family gathering—clearly counting the minutes until he could leave.)
At that first workout, the son knew this was for him.
But his dad was not as convinced.
At some point, the son convinced his brother and sister to try it out. Later, their mom joined too.
And then—seven years after that first visit—the dad finally decided to give it a try.
He didn’t make a big deal about it. He just made a decision:
He wanted to train three days per week, first thing in the morning. No matter what.
He had all the concerns—especially the one most men over a certain age have:
Can I work out here without getting hurt?
Seeing his kids work out may have made it feel like something only younger people could handle.
But once his wife had success, that may have been the thing that finally convinced him.
He made it work. He’s been consistent for years now. So consistent, he even brings a backup workout plan when he travels or needs to train at home due to his schedule.
I don’t know exactly how much weight he’s lost, but I’d estimate in the 20 to 30-pound range.
What I do know is he’s stronger. He’s healthier.
And I’d bet the only regret he has is that he didn’t start back when his son first asked him.
